Two weeks of music, theatre, visual arts, film, literature, circus & carnival on Ireland’s North West Atlantic seaboard.
The Earagail Arts Festival would like to invite you to come and experience a wealth of unforgettable events in the spectacular surroundings of County Donegal. Over the last 25 years we have brought to this magical county some of the greatest internationally recognised artists and companies in music, theatre, visual arts, literature and outdoor spectacle. From movie screenings in forests and castles to innovative theatre, street arts and circus in gardens, parks and state of the art venues, our unique programme reaches out across County Donegal, so wherever you’re staying you’ll be able to enjoy a feast of entertainment located in the heart of one of Ireland’s most outstanding areas of natural beauty.
The Wild Atlantic Way on Ireland’s west coast leads you through one of the world’s most dramatic coastal landscapes, a landscape on the edge of Europe that has shaped the development of its people, communities and settlements, a landscape that has inspired its own particular language, literature, art, song and dance. It’s a place of many natural features -seascapes, sea-life, cliffs, mountains, glens, loughs, trails and pathways. It’s a place to experience nature at its wildest, a place to explore the history of the Gaels and their religion; a place to experience great events, great food and drink, great music and the craic and of course we are here too. #EAF

The Earagail Arts Festival ran a 5 week Children’s Christmas Story Workshop in the lead up to the festive period, from 21st November – 19th December 2013, concluding in a story telling morning of their own work.
This course provided students aged 6 – 10 years of age with a platform to develop ideas and creative writing skills in a fun and dynamic environment, where improvisation and performance created the basis for their learning.
The course was hugely successful and we are delighted to present to you a complete collection of the young writers stories and poems.
We hope you will enjoy these for many Christmases to come.

The 2013 Earagail Arts Festival ran from the 21st June – 21st July and brought music, theatre, art and entertainment galore to the people and visitors of Donegal . With event such as Abhaile – The Homecoming, Awakening the Horseman, Songfest and Song Sisters being hailed as highlights, this year’s festival will certainly be one to be remembered. The volunteers that dedicated their time and passion to our events were outstanding, helping us achieve a score of 91% in customer service excellence at Abhaile in the festival’s marquee at Carrickfinn. With such amazing support is it any wonder we have made it to this 25 year landmark.
Please keep an eye out for our audience survey which is now available by clicking the link below. Your feedback and comments are invaluable to our continued success.
We have officially opened the 2013 Earagail Arts Festival! With the ever beautiful backdrop of the Inishowen peninsula we kicked off another year with a bang. The hugely anticipated Awakening the Horseman in Grianán Ailigh, Burt was a spectacle of colour, costume and music with LUXe providing a flawless performance that stunned and captivated its audience.
In Carndonagh, the specially commissioned Destination Doughnut took to the roads in a thought provoking and emotional piece of theatre, whilst in Mc Grory’s, Culdaff, 2 wonderful gigs of folk music from Ireland and French Acadie set the tone for what will be a momentous 25th Earagail Arts Festival. Keep in touch with us on Facebook and Twitter for regular updates on the rest of the shows still to come.
A Memorable Year For The Earagail Arts Festival
It has been a long couple of months getting the brochure and programming ready for our 25th festival, but we are happy to say it is currently in a location near you. Over the May bank holiday weekend, thousands of Earagail Arts Festival brochures were delivered to shops, offices, arts centres and pubs throughout the country in preparation for an early start, 21st June 2013.
We have a host of children’s events, outdoor activities, music and theatre that will appeal to all types of audiences. Our flagship event Abhaile – The Homecoming, will be a highlight in West Donegal, with thousands expected to take part in events throughout the area over that weekend, including a Traditional Market Fair at Leo’s Tavern, Meenaleck and scenic folklore walks in Crolly.
Awakening The Horseman, which is opening the festival in Burt, Inishowen is already a near sell out event and shadow play, illuminated installation, sumptuous costume and raw music are just some of the delights creating the soundscape and aromas of this Summer Solstice event.
Letterkenny is kicking off with 1927 production The Animals And The Children Took To The Streets, which has been a smash hit at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival the past two years. With music from Josh Ritter, Song Sisters and Sam Lee and events like The Festival Big Top Cabaret and the Global Village Gathering, this year’s festival is set to be a memorable one.
If you can’t wait until June, then join us at our Launch celebration on the Letterkenny Main Street, Market Square from 4:30pm for family entertainment and music. We even have a few surprises in store, so we warn you not to miss it….
Welcome to our new and improved website. We have been working hard to make sure that we provide as much information as possible to help you plan your festival schedule this year. You can view local attractions and accommodation easily and navigate through events by day, month or location.
We also wanted to mark our 25th year by celebrating the beautiful county we live in and the mountain which gives us our name.
We will shortly be adding our full programme, but in the meantime take a look at our exclusive “Early Bird” shows. We know you won’t be disappointed.
