Event Description

North West Words, Donegal’s leading Spoken Word Series presents three very special Earagail Arts Festival events including a short story workshop and evening reading by Nuala Ní Chonchúir on the opening day of 10th July and an evening of poetry and storytelling with spoken word artist-in-residence Stephen James Smith in Cafe Davitt on 24th July.

Nuala Ní Chonchúir

A long-time mentor to creative writing students at Irish universities, currently at NUI Maynooth and also with Words Ireland, Nuala Ní Chonchúir’s work has been short-listed for Short Story of the Year at the 2017 Irish Book Awards, the Eason Book Club Novel of the Year 2015 and long-listed for the 2017 International Dublin Literary Award.

Stephen James Smith

Stephen James Smith is a Dublin poet and playwright central to the rise of the vibrant spoken word scene in Ireland today. His debut collection, Fear Not, published by Arlen House, was launched in September 2018 in Dublin at Poetry Ireland.

Currently collection, Fear Not with Laois Arts Office, his poetry is included on the syllabus at Western Connecticut State University and his work has been translated into multiple languages. His poetry videos have amassed over 2.5 million views.
