Event Description

A night of poetry and music with Paddy Glackin and Cathal Ó Searcaigh.

Paddy Glackin is one of Ireland’s most respected and most influential traditional musicians. A founding member of the seminal Bothy Band, he has made a number of acclaimed recordings over the years with the likes of  Jolyn Jackson, Paddy Keenan,  Robbie Hannon and Mícheál Ó Dómhnaill. A regular tutor at the Willie Clancy Summer School, he is presently a member of traditional supergroup LAPD, with Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine and Liam Óg O’Flynn.

Cathal Ó Searcaigh published his first major collection of poetry, Súile Suibhne, in 1987.  A member of Aosdána, his most recent collections include An Fear Glas /The Green Man (Arlen House)  and An Bhé Glas, published in 2015 by Leabhar Breac. His poems are also featured in the recently  published anthology, Leabhar na hAthgabhála : Poems of Repossession, edited by Louis de Paor.

Oíche Filíochta is agus Ceol le Paddy Glackin agus Cathal Ó Searcaigh.

Is duine de na ceoltóirí traidisiúnta is mó le rá in Éirinn sa lá ann é Paddy Glackin. Tá dlúth cheangal aige le ceol Dhún na nGall is tá an-tionchar ag John Doherty ar a stíl fidiléireachta. Bhí sí ina bhall den ghrúpa iontach cheannródach The Bothy Band is tá sé i mbun ceol anois le LAPD, i gcomhluadar Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine agus Liam Óg O’Floinn.

D’fhoilsíodh an chéad cnúsacht filíochta le Cathal Ó Searcaigh, Súile Suibhne, i 1987. I measc a chnúsachtaí is deireannaí uaidh tá An Fear Glas/The Green Man, agus An Bhé Glas, a d’fhoilsíodh i 2015 ag Leabhar Breac.  Tá rogha dá dhánta curtha san aireamh fosta san nua-duanaire, Leabhar na hAthghabhála, atá eagraithe ag Louis de Paor.
